Project Overview
Adamo completed the demolition of the nine-story Fine Arts and three-story Adams Theatre buildings in the congested Grand Circus Park Historic District of downtown Detroit. The two buildings, connected by a 2nd floor passageway, were deemed unsafe for entry or surveying and had to be demolished and disposed of as asbestos containing in their entirety. Of particular interest on this project was the façade preservation of the Fine Arts Building facing Grand Circus Park.
The building behind the façade was too dilapidated to save, but Adamo collaborated on the solution to demolish the back end of the building up to the front wall, which remains supported by a scaffolding system until re-development plans are finalized and implemented by the Owner. At the time of the project, this was the tallest façade preservation completed.
The seven-story Fine Arts Building on Grand Circus Park in Detroit Michigan was constructed in 1905.
Due to neglect and in danger of falling into a dilapidated condition, Adamo Demolition Company was contracted to demolish the structure while retaining the brick facade. Utilizing both hand and hydraulic equipment, Adamo’s team of experienced workers accomplished this task in two months with no damage to the facade itself.
According to Jeff Laswell of J.C. Beal Company, this is the highest facade saved to date, measuring 90 ft. wide by 80 ft. tall.
The 385 utilized a CAT MP20 multi-processor attachment.
This combination made little work of downing the building itself.
