St. Joseph Mercy Hospital – Pontiac Post – Tensioned Parking Deck Demolition

Adamo demolished the 6-level, post-tensioned, parking deck adjacent to the Pontiac St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. This project was complicated by a single story chapel directly adjacent to the demolition and within inches of the exterior parking deck stairwell being demolished. The stairwell was meticulously dismantled and removed by crane to avoid any damage to the chapel.

Due to our current contract requirements we are unable to present actual photos of this project. We would be more than happy to discuss this type of project and the challenges presented to us and how we overcame them by calling us directly.

Fine Arts and Adams Theatre Buildings Demolition and Facade Preservation

Adamo completed the demolition of the nine-story Fine Arts and three-story Adams Theatre buildings in the congested Grand Circus Park Historic District of downtown Detroit. The two buildings, connected by a 2nd floor passageway, were deemed unsafe for entry or surveying and had to be demolished and disposed of as asbestos containing in their entirety. Of particular interest on this project was the façade preservation of the Fine Arts Building facing Grand Circus Park.

The building behind the façade was too dilapidated to save, but Adamo collaborated on the solution to demolish the back end of the building up to the front wall, which remains supported by a scaffolding system until re-development plans are finalized and implemented by the Owner. At the time of the project, this was the tallest façade preservation completed.

Madison Lenox Hotel Demolition

Madison Lenox Hotel

Madison Lenox Hotel Demolition

The Madison Lenox Hotel, built in the early 1900s, had two 8-story towers (the Madison and the Lenox) connected by a two- story building, and spanned nearly a full block in downtown Detroit. Due to the poor condition of the structure, no pre-demolition environmental testing could be completed, meaning that the building had to be demolished and all materials handled and disposed of as asbestos containing materials.

Work on the emergency, ordered demolition project was temporarily stopped by court order, pending resolution of a dispute between the ordering body of the City of Detroit and two local preservation groups. As the building had been condemned as unsafe by the City, the court allowed the demolition to continue. The site was prepared and used as parking for the Superbowl hosted by the City in 2006.
