Adamo Group Awarded Silverdome Demolition

Adamo Group has been awarded a contract to demolish the Pontiac Silverdome.  Construction on the Silverdome began in 1973 and it debuted as home to the Detroit Lions in 1975.  It also served as home to the Detroit Pistons for a time in the 1980s.  The stadium featured the first fiberglass fabric roof supported by air pressure in a major stadium.  Seating 82,000, the Silverdome was the largest NFL stadium until 1997, when it was eclipsed by FedEx Field in Washington, D.C.

After both the Lions and Pistons moved on to newer facilities, the stadium tried several efforts to reboot itself without success.  By 2015, the roof had collapsed, and the stadium fell to a state of deep disrepair.

Adamo Group began work on the site in May and expects to begin significant efforts in late November.  The project is expected to last until late 2018.
