Fine Arts and Adams Theatre Buildings Demolition and Facade Preservation

October 24, 2014

Adamo completed the demolition of the nine-story Fine Arts and three-story Adams Theatre buildings in the congested Grand Circus Park Historic District of downtown Detroit. The two buildings, connected by a 2nd floor passageway, were deemed unsafe for entry or surveying and had to be demolished and disposed of as asbestos containing in their entirety. Of particular interest on this project was the façade preservation of the Fine Arts Building facing Grand Circus Park. The building behind the façade was too dilapidated to save, but Adamo collaborated on the solution to demolish the back end of the building up to the front wall, which remains supported by a scaffolding system until re-development plans are finalized and implemented by the Owner. At the time of the project, this was the tallest façade preservation completed.
